Are we getting dumber or more efficient?

From a post over at AtlanticWire, the size of the human brain appears to be getting smaller.

according to new research, “Over the past 20,000 years, the average volume of the human male brain has decreased from 1,500 cubic centimeters to 1,350 cc, losing a chunk the size of a tennis ball. The female brain has shrunk by about the same proportion.”

Perhaps like the evolution of the computer chip our brains are getting smaller and more efficient.  Or perhaps the shrinking brain means we are getting dumber.

Rather than look to deep evolutionary inferences for an answer, Occam’s Razor (when you have two competing theories, the simpler one is better) is instructive here .   As in the AtlanticWire post, if we just look to Congress it is clear – we are getting dumber.

The link to Occam’s Razor does not work.
